Need more than a Runners Waist Pack?

Need something more than a runners waist pack to get you motivated?  Did you ever think a book about running could be entertaining?  Well, here's a real treat.  My main man Dean Karnazes, or "Karno" as he likes to be called has a few books out.  I've recently read Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner and it has given me more motivation than anything I've found so far for my running pleasure.

For those of you who haven't heard of Dean Karnazes, he is what is known as an ultramarathon runner.  He's the kind of guy who runs a marathon each morning before breakfast and eats 100 mile runs for dinner.  This man is unbreakable.

Karnazes mixes harrowing stories of running disasters with his well known light-hearted sense of humor.  When a new runners waist pack won't get you out the door, this book definitely will.  It's a very fast read chock full of great stories that even the beginning runner can relate to.  It just makes you want to go out and run some more!  So check out this great book at Amazon.  I just couldn't be more impressed.

So grab a runners waist pack with enough water carrying capacity to last you the run you plan on taking.  If you need more water, think about grabbing an additional clip on water bottle.  We promise you if you plan right, then you definitely will experience success in your training runs.  So don't wait any longer.  You know you want to run a marathon.  Get started!  It will be the best feeling of your life!

Choosing a Runners Waist Pack

Runners Waist PackWhen buying a runners waist pack…

When looking to purchase a runners waist pack there are many options to choose from.  The key to picking the best waist pack for you is matching your needs as runners to the features of each.  Proper nutrition is the key to a sustained workout, especially outdoors where you don't want to get caught far from any resources.  So you want to get the pack that will carry enough nutrition without leaving you to haul around needless weight.  Consider the following when choosing a runners waist pack.

How important is hydration?  When it comes to endurance sports, nothing is more important than hydration.  That is why the first thing to look for in a waist pack for runners is if it provides sufficient hydration.  Most athletes prefer not to carry watter bottles in their hands, which makes a belt ideal for carrying them.  The most popular runners waist packs can come with up to five water flasks.  You should asses your workouts and determine how much liquid you should carry with you to avoid dehydration and unwanted detours to a drinking fountain.

What about nutrition?  For long distance runs, nutrition is nearly as important as hydration.  Many athletes prefer a liquid diet while running, like energy gels or drinks, while others enjoy boosts from granola bars or fruit.  When selecting a runners waist pack, it's good to evaluate it's cargo space.  Does it come with a zippered pocket?  Is that pocket big enough?  The pocket size should be large enough for any food items you like to bring, plus other essentials like a cell phone, music player, inhaler or credit cards and ID.

The final thing to look for in the proper runners waist pack is the materials and the fastener.  What is is made out of?  Will that be comfortable while jogging?  Is it velcro or an adjustible strap?  What do other users have to  say about this pack?  All these are good questions when looking to pick out the proper runners waist pack for your long distance endurance runs.

We've picked out the most popular waist packs for runners from Amazon.com's vast collection of running gear.  Read through our featured products in each category and read what others have to say about each one.  With our help, your search for the perfect runners waist pack will be quick and easy!

Runners Waist Pack – How and Why to Stay Hydrated with One

If you're a beginning runner, or even a more season veteran of the sport, you might not realize how important it is to stay hydrated throughout your runs.  It is very important to learn this fact:  hydration is the single most important thing you can do to maintain peak performance.  And that is why we've made this site dedicated to the runners waist pack.  We know how important it is to stay hydrated, and we want to help you do that.

So why use a runners waist pack to stay hydrated?  Continual hydration is key to muscle performance and preventing heat/hydration related illnesses.  Improper hydration can lead to various forms of painful muscle cramps, extend recovery time, increased risk of heat stroke and blood conditions known as hyponatremia or hypernatremia (overly diluted blood and overly concentrated blood).  Regularly replacing fluids while running, not all at once after a run, can best be accomplished if you carry a water source with you.  That's why we recommend so highly the runners waist pack.
It is always good to make sure you are well hydrated before a long run every occurs.  Once jogging, you can use your runners waist pack to make sure you are getting proper fluids.  Unfortunately, if you drink too much straight water for too long, you will begin to suffer from the diluted blood condition mentioned above.  Your muscles need molecules called electrolytes to function properly.  An important rule to remember is that in general, if you're running for longer than an hour, you need to add an electrolyte replacement supplement to your exercise nutrition.  Our preferred way is to introduce a sports drink to your runners waist pack.  There are also tasteless water additives or even chewable electrolyte substances.  If you use your runners waist pack to keep your electrolyte levels high enough, you can decrease the potential muscle cramps you experience during or after a run.
So how much water should you typically drink during a workout?  This question is important because it will determine what kind of runners waist pack you decide to purchase.  But the answer to this question is different for every person and varies based on a number of factors including how hydrated you are to begin with and how much you sweat.  A good rule of thumb is to try and drink 6-8 ounces of fluid for every 20-30 minutes in your workout, but overall, listen to your body and drink whenever you need to.  Athletes and scientists alike agree that once your body is feeling thirsty, dehydration has already set in.  So use your runners waist pack to avoid thirst during your workouts.
Now you know a bit more about the importance of staying hydrated.  You will find increased stamina and shorter recovery times if you use your runners waist pack to regularly increase your fluid intakes during your workouts.  Avoid the fluid binge at the end.  You should choose a runners waist pack based on your particular needs depending on the workouts you do.  Above all, keep your fluid levels up and you will have increasingly better workouts.
